In progress home on Monte Wolf still in process. Probably won't be
completed this year.
Forest Management: Dave Morley
Dave Morley reported our official forest management program is now a
year old and is progressing nicely.
The Forester who is contracted to evaluate and mark trees is: Ross Richards
The logger who is contracted to fell, cut, and haul the trees is Sean Hammes.
Dave Morley noted some detail about forest management: The Tamarack
pines protect the Jeffrey pines as they grow. Once the Jeffrey's have
grown up, the Tamaracks can be removed. If there are too many trees
in a small area, there's not enough moisture to support tree health
and the beetles come in and "mother nature thins your trees for you."
Another resident reported there's also a tree fungus and root fungus
that's affecting trees in the area as well.
Fallen dead trees and slash are also important to remove. If the dead
tree is within 150 feet of the home, state law requires removal.
Supervisor's Report
County Supervisor Terry Woodrow noted several programs (chipper,
dumpster, etc.) available to help lot owners remove dead trees.
Applications for chipping services are at general store or at Terry
Woodrow's office.
Prop 40 and other grants are in use for fuels reduction in Bear
Valley. As part of this funding, CDF crews (if available) will be in
Bear Valley to clean up slash and dead trees.
Terry Woodrow reported the tree removal on common areas is done
according to highest priority basis as funding is limited. Forest
service cut some trees on home run area. They were just felled and
the mountain doesn't intend to remove them. Terry is looking into
this.
* BV Development Plan Update and Discussion
The board has established a three-member communications committee to
communicate back and forth between the major development teams
currently doing work in Bear Valley, and the community. This
committee is intended to be the first step in the communications
process between the community and the developers such as Chuck
Toenisketter.
Residents may communicate with the board by email (to
BVRI@goldrush.com) and the committee will track those questions and
submit them to the development team.
The committee will not take a position on any issues. It is simply to
serve as an information conduit.
FAQs will be posted on the BVRI Website (http://www.bvri.org)
The committee includes: Dave Morley, Ron Rossi, Eric Jung
Step II
A second committee will be formed to address and analyze issues as
they arise. The entire BVRI board will be on this committee.
Community members may also join the committee.
Step III
If serious issues remain that negatively impact homeowners, the BVRI
board may take a position about that issue and take it up with Chuck
Toenisketter and team.
Note: Another way to address issues is to contact the Alpine County
Planning Commission directly. Planning commission reviews all public
input and makes decisions based on input received.
