Minutes, General Meeting, 7-6-02

Introduction: Morley welcomed all attendees and introduced the Board members. He said the Board generally meets quarterly, but conducts business on a daily basis by phone and e-mail.
Picnic: Morley said next year’s picnic will be on July 4 at 4pm. This year’s picnic raised $970 for the Bear Valley Search & Rescue. The Board voted to add $30 to make it $1,000. 250 people attended.
Treasurer’s Report: Brian Neth reported that BVRI has $46,000 in the bank, $16,000 in various reserves. Money is being spent on revitalization of the beaches and operation of the Architectural Review Committee. Dues are catching up to last year’s level.
Beaches: Sue Garratt said the Board has a policy for private use of the beach. Interested parties may contact Sue through the BVRI website, www.bvri.org. A contact person will be required to be responsible for trash, noise, and behavior. BVRI will encourage a $50 donation for such use. There will be a walkthrough before, and after if necessary. She talked about the prohibition on dogs at the lake and beaches, because of BVRI’s use agreement with Lake Alpine Water Company, owner of the lake. Under the agreement, BVRI provides porta-potties and pays a beach attendant. All users should be notified that dogs are not allowed around the lake perimeter. She noted that dogs love Lake Alpine.
Tennis Courts: Eric Jung reported on the BVRI survey about the feasibility of building tennis courts. Many respondents support the idea, but few are willing to pay or work on the project. The Board voted to turn over the list of active supporters to those same supporters. Robert Conrad said he hoped the issue was not closed as a BVRI project, as the supporters may come up with enough money, and come back to BVRI with a project. Mary Korn said she opposed use of the children’s beach site for courts. Bruce Bolt encouraged BVRI to help with coordination. Don Ruch pointed out that the number of active supporters was only 6% of the community. Kate Humphries asked the Board to stay involved. Robert Conrad said he thought the supporters could come up with the money, but he didn’t feel temporary courts on a parking lot were a good solution.
Fire Prevention: Brian Neth said he was coordinating inspections for fire safety, including 30 foot clearance, vehicles blocking emergency vehicle access, and county mandated posting of addresses. Debra Willard requested that notices sent out inform people how to comply.
Snowmobile Storage: Morley said he was sending out letters requesting compliance with the CC&R’s regarding proper storage of snowmobiles, under cover and away from the street. Jim Clarke asked about the storage of snowmobiles at the Sheriff’s Office. Terry Woodrow said the coming firehouse expansion will provide a place for inside storage.
Cable System: Don Ruch noted a letter from DCA Cablevision to the community, printed in the Cub Reporter, about planned improvements to the community tv cable system.
