BEAUTIFICATION OF BEAR VALLEY. We live in and visit Bear Valley because it is a uniquely beautiful and natural place. We need to do all we can to keep it as natural and safe as possible. Please inspect your home and surrounding property to determine if improvements can be made to make the setting natural. Some suggestions:
Clean up fallen trees and debris. In addition to aesthetic considerations, fallen trees and debris represent a fire danger to the entire community. In general, all needles and leaves must be cleaned from the roof, there must be a screen on the chimney outlet, all dead or dying wood adjacent to or overhanging any building must be removed, any limb within 10 feet of the chimney outlet must be removed, all dead limbs on trees must be removed to 6 feet from the ground and your property must be cleared of flammable material to 30 feet from the building or to the property line, whichever is closer. Consult with the Bear Valley Fire Department with questions regarding fire safety; notify the fire department of combustible debris you observe on common areas or forest service land that may be a threat to the community.
Lets all enjoy the beautiful Bear Valley nights without intrusion of artificial lighting. Please shield your outdoor lighting and consider reduced wattage lights to avoid projection of light from your property onto adjoining properties, streets, etc. (CC&R requirement)
Store your snowmobiles out of sight or cover them with natural colored cover.
For the safety of you, your family and neighbors, observe the 15 MPH speed limit in Bear Valley village. The Sheriffs Department advises that the 15 MPH speed limit will be strictly enforced.
Remember not to park campers/RVs, boats, trailers, large trucks, detached camper tops, etc. within the residential area (CC & R requirement).
Consider sowing native wild flowers around your property in the fall.
CLEANUP DAY. There will be two dumpsters available on July 17th (currently scheduled for Lot C). Acceptable materials are: household items, metals, plastic, paper, treated wood waste. Unacceptable materials are: household hazardous waste, tires, rocks, dirt, cement, stumps and commercial construction debris. Set any large appliances(washers, dryers, etc.) beside the dumpsters -- they will be recycled by Bear Valley Disposal. We encourage you to carry a sack when you are out for walks and pick up debris that surfaces as the snow melts and throughout the summer.
BURN PILE. There will be no public burn pile near the ballfield this summer. Commercial vegetation removal is available.

ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE REPORT. At the Architectural Review Meeting on June 13, three new homes were approved for construction. One will be the first home to be constructed in the new Bear Paw Ridge subdivision, overlooking the northwest side of Bear Lake. A new home will be constructed on lot 32 at the U-turn on Quaking Aspen Road. The third home will be constructed on lot 205 on Orvis Road. Work is scheduled to start of all of them this building season.
At the meeting, two requests for variance to the CC&Rs were discussed. One was approved for a five foot extension into the front and rear setbacks for the new home to be constructed on Quaking Aspen Road. The other variance request was for a three foot extension into a side setback for a deck extension. This request was tabled pending receipt of additional information. One home on Lake Road was approved for repaint and another on Bloods Ridge Road was approved for deck repair.
Homeowners in subdivisions 1-9 (all but "old" Bear Valley and the condominiums) are reminded that all exterior changes to their homes, including tree cutting and landscape changes, must be approved in advance by the ARC. This includes exterior repaint/restain, reroofs, and deck modifications. In most cases of exterior changes your adjacent neighbors must be notified by the ARC prior to approval. ARC members are Ron Murphy, Chair (408-246-2874-W or 650-948-8441-H), Robin LaRoy, Clem Soga and Terry Woodrow (209-753-2551-W or 209-753-2505-H).
BVRI BULLETIN BOARD. BVRI now has a bulletin board on the wall adjoining the entrance to the Post Office; announcements, agendas, etc. will be posted in this location.
HSMF. The High Sierra Music Festival will take place in the Bear Valley meadow from July 1 through July 4.
