PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE – DAVE MORLEY

This year has been a very successful one for the BVRI Board. We have had a full 15 member hard working board all year. A new swim platform was installed at the beach this summer. This fall, the dead trees were felled at the big beach. There was an active ARC review program in place all year. The annual July 4th picnic was very successful, not only in the number of people attending and the food served but also in the fact that $1000 was raised for the Bear Valley Search and Rescue Team. BVRI awarded a $1000 scholarship to Luke Stevens as he continues his education. BVRI also donated to the Bear Valley Music Festival.

Now that winter is here, please use your snowmobile appropriately in Bear Valley. Please obey the laws that are listed later in this newsletter. If you wish to use your snowmobile for recreational purposes, please take it into the forest and have a great time.

BEACH REPORT   BVRI Board Member Sue Garratt reports the following: Since the end of summer, preparations for winter’s impact on our beaches have been focused on putting away all of the “toys” ie. buoys, boats, and volleyball equipment et al, building berms to keep the rains’ runoff from sweeping more sand into the lake, and retiring the port-a-potties and garbage cans. The raft stays put, more or less, in the frozen lake as it was designed to withstand ice and snow. About 50 dead and dying trees at the Big Beach end of the lake were taken down leaving piles of very big pick-up sticks. This is the first step in cleaning up and restoring the beautiful property which all of us own as members of BVRI and which surrounds Bear Lake. If you are planning to be married on the beach next summer, please wait until after July 15th as it will take a long time to clean up all that slash. And speaking of weddings and other events being considered for Summer ’03, let us put you on the calendar by contacting BVRI at ( www.bvri.org) or write to BVRI, P.O. Box 5145, Bear Valley, CA 95223. Sue also reports any BVRI member can secure lots of free firewood from the 50 downed trees at the Big Beach area this coming summer – first come first served!!

ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE    Your Architectural Review Committee reports that construction of two new homes was completed during last summer’s building season and that five remain under construction. Three sets of plans for new homes are currently under review; one of these will probably be approved within the next two weeks. Eight home remodel requests were made, ranging from reroof, siding replacement and repaint/stain to major living space additions. Two requests for remodel approval are currently under review. As a reminder to all homeowners in the “new” subdivisions of Bear Valley (tract 1-7, 9) - any alteration to the exterior of there homes requires ARC approval prior to implementation. (Some require Alpine County Building Department approval). This includes reroof, repaint/restain, tree removal, landscaping, remodel – anything that changes the exterior appearance of the property. Your ARC Committee consists of Ron Murphy (Chair), Terry Woodrow, Robin La Roy, Clem Soga and Gary Willard. Please contact any member directly with questions or e-mail them through the BVRI web site (www.bvri.org).

FINANCIAL REPORT    BVRI Treasurer Brian Neth reports the organization is in sound financial standing with assets exceeding liabilities by over $23,388.62 a slight increase over the previous year of $1,335.82. This follows the approved expenditures for removing the old swim raft and installing the new one as well as expenditures for clearing the dead trees at the Big Beach. As of December 1st, BVRI has 308 homeowner members. Any member who wants additional financial information on BVRI may contact Brian Neth at www.bvri.org or P.O. Box 5145, Bear Valley, CA 95223.

SNOWMOBILING IN THE VILLAGE   It’s time for everyone to think about safe snowmobile use throughout the Village for the 2002-2003 Winter. The Sheriff would like everyone to make sure all persons in the household, especially guests, are familiar with the rules of snowmobile operation. The Sheriff recommends you post the following (legally binding) rules in a prominent place in your Bear Valley home.

Snowmobile safety will be a priority of the Sheriff’s Department this season. The Sheriff’s Department will be actively patrolling all Bear Valley roads this season to ensure snowmobile safety. Be forewarned! The Sheriff’s Department has announced that citations will be issued to violators this season. Questions regarding Snowmobile Operation in the Village should be directed to the Sheriff’s Office.
